It was the only loss of the season for the Contenders (10-1), who will try to return the favor against the Lancers (11-0) on Saturday with an offense Weiss hopes can be more productive this time. Grace Brethren held Faith Baptist's 55-point-per-game attack to one touchdown until the fourth quarter of that 35-16 decision. ``I think we need to come out and try to establish ourselves physically,'' said Weiss, who suspects his team may have tried passing too much against the Lancers last month. ``We're going to focus on moving the (first-down) sticks.'' Defensively, Weiss will be counting on linemen Matt Dymond, Aydin Keshavarzfard, Jeremy Lopez and Seb Plourde to put more pressure on the Lancers. ``They were able to do some things offensively that I don't think they'll be able to do this time,'' Weiss said. Tyler Larson sparked the Lancers' offense that day, rushing for a game-high 213 yards and scoring twice as Grace Brethren scored its first-ever football win over the Contenders. He'll be joined by quarterback Robert Serra in leading a Lancers offense that is averaging 35 points a game. Last year, in a Heritage League title decider at Grace Brethren, the visiting Contenders were hard to contain en route to a 56-18 victory. But Jackson Beauchamp was a defensive standout for the Lancers in defeat, recording a game-high 31 tackles and chasing down several Faith Baptist players from behind. Adam Bender, Frank Suarez, John Durso and Beauchamp were the defensive leaders that day as the Lancers checked Faith Baptist to 224 yards and just one score until the fourth quarter. What a difference a year makes: After dominating last year's first meeting between the schools, Faith Baptist had trouble doing anything well but punting in Game 2 last month. Weiss credits an improved Grace Brethren defense and the fact that the Lancers were much healthier for this year's league game. ``They've improved their team defensively and they had some key players injured in·jure tr.v. in·jured, in·jur·ing, in·jures 1.
