Hart High is seeded No. 1 once again in the Southern Section Division III

football playoffs, and quarterback Kyle Matter wouldn't have it any other way.

``I'm definitely feeling pretty confident,'' said Matter, whose 2,701 yards passing and 41 touchdowns have carried the Indians to a 10-0 record. ``We're used to being the top dog and every one else trying to knock us off, so we're ready.''

Hart, hosting Quartz Hill (3-7) in the first round on Friday, was among 36 local teams qualifying for the postseason, as pairings were announced Sunday at the CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. CIF formats are defined by their resolution, and standards both above and below the original resolution have been established. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF).  office. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  is seeded No. 2 in the same bracket and meets visiting Littlerock.

Westlake (9-1) is seeded second in Division IV, and Rosamond (10-0) is the top seed in Division VII.

Hart seeks its fifth section championship and third since 1995.

``I think we have as good a shot as anyone,'' coach Mike Herrington said. ``There's a lot of good teams, and we're one of them. A couple of teams are really strong - Notre Dame, St. Francis - so we need to avoid injuries and turnovers.''

Westlake, whose only loss was a 16-0 setback to nationally ranked Clovis West in Week 2, has never advanced past the semifinals. However, the Warriors have been ranked No. 1 by the Daily News all season, and Penn State-bound quarterback Zac Wasserman is hoping this is their year.

``We always say we're taking things one week at time, but to be honest, winning the championship has been in the back of our minds all along,'' Wasserman said. ``Now that the playoffs are here, we just want to be more focused and more intense.''

Westlake hosts Dos Pueblos (3-7) on Friday.

Alemany (7-3) and Loyola (7-3) both qualified in Division I. Alemany, which needed Friday's victory over Bishop Amat to make the playoffs, travels to Esperanza (6-4) on Friday, and the Indians might host second-seeded Mater Dei Mater Dei is Latin for "Mother of God", referring to the Virgin Mary. The term has been used to name various institutions, often Catholic, including:
  • Mater Dei Catholic College, Wagga Wagga
  • Mater Dei College, Western Australia
 (8-2) in the second round.

Alemany quarterback Casey Clausen Casey Clausen (born January 9, 1981) is a former American football player who played college football for the University of Tennessee. He took over the starting position from A.J. Suggs. , who has committed to Tennessee, thinks the victory over Bishop Amat can be a springboard.

``That was a big win for us because before Bishop Amat we'd been struggling,'' Clausen said. ``Now we're in the playoffs, and we think we can beat any team on any given night. So who knows what's gonna happen? We're just gonna go out and play.''

Rosamond, which hosts Salesian (5-4-1) in the first round, has never won a section title. The closest the Roadrunners came was in 1971, when they lost 20-13 to L.A. Baptist - coached by CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  graduate Don Markham - in the 1-A final.

power Montclair Prep (8-2), two-time section champion Paraclete (7-3) and Kilpatrick (6-4), featuring record-setting running back Jermaine Marshall.
