Athletes of the Week: Tyler Adamczyk, Junior, Westlake baseball, and

Erin Voeltz, Senior, Westlake softball.

TYLER ADAMCZYK:

Solid pitching and hitting gave the Warriors four wins in five days last week and they didn't have to look any further than Adamczyk to find the offense or the pitching.

The right-hander led Westlake (8-0) to the championship of the Daily News Invitational on Saturday by throwing a complete game in his first pitching start of the season. Adamczyk (1-0) struck out 12 and held El Camino Real's usually explosive offense to five hits. He also scored the go-ahead run after walking in the fourth inning.

Adamczyk started the week by going 2 for 3 with a home run in a nonleague victory against Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. ERIN VOELTZ:

If Westlake is to make a run at the Marmonte League championship, it'll do so behind Voeltz, who tossed three shutouts over four days.

In the Marmonte League opener last Tuesday Last Tuesday is a Christian melodic punk rock band hailing from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They played their final show on March 10th, 2007. Last Tuesday was formed in 1999 in Harrisburg, P.A. , Voeltz allowed three hits and struck out 10 in a 5-0 victory over Agoura.

On Thursday at Royal, Voeltz struck out 10 and yielded three hits in a 3-0 blanking of the Highlanders. She capped it off with a two-hit, nine- strikeout performance in a 1-0 nonleague win over Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. Voeltz, who has signed with Georgia Tech, faces her biggest challenge of the season today when the Warriors play at Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. ``We haven't been hitting like we're capable of and she's been keeping us in the ball games,'' Westlake coach Darwin Torzin said. ``She sometimes has a tendency to lose her concentration. But (against Royal) she threw strikes.''

vs.

BILL SIZEMORE

Thousand Oaks baseball

Head coach

Berrington and Sizemore built their respective programs into two of the region's most powerful teams. Throw in Marmonte League title implications and the cross-town rivalry, and it's hard to find a more intense matchup.

But waiting to see what happens between the two coaches could be just as intriguing as whether Thousand Oaks (7-1) ace Chris Cordeiro can shut down Westlake's loaded offense.

Berrington and Sizemore went from being friends who hung out away from the field to bitter rivals who never miss an opportunity to make negative comments about the other after a controversial forfeit involving the two last season. Westlake (8-0) was denied a share of the league title when its late-season victory against the league-champion Lancers lanc·er

ON DECK:

This week's must see:

Valencia at Hart baseball

Valencia is the team with the undefeated record, not the defending Division II champion Indians, and this is the Vikings' chance to take advantage in the Foothill League race. Valencia (6-0, 1-0) gets a huge break with Hart ace Jamie Shields being bothered by a sore back. But even teams at full strength haven't been able to overcome the pitching of Jeff Green and an offense led by Richie Martin.
