PREP DAY: CORTEZ TO COACH LANCASTER FOOTBALL.

Jeff Cortez is leaving Paraclete High of Lancaster to take over the struggling Lancaster football program, pending approval from the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

Cortez, who led Paraclete to two Southern Section Div. XII titles in three seasons, cited the opportunity to coach a larger school as the reason to move to a Lancaster team that went 2-8 last season.

Division III (or DIII) is a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association of the United States.
 football in a school with 2,950 students,'' Cortez said. ``Every game is going to be an intense situation. Professionally, it's a very attractive opportunity to turn something around.''

Lancaster is expected to receive board approval and make an official announcement Tuesday.

In boys' tennis:

--Viewpoint 17, Montclair Prep 1: Tyler Mullen and Geoffrey Chizever each won their respective matches in straight sets as host Viewpoint of Calabasas (6-0) won its 21st consecutive regular-season match, dating back to last season.
