PREP BASKETBALLL ROUNDUP: MOORPARK MOVES INTO SIMI SEMIS.

Shawn Fortman scored 16 points and teammate Blake Sharpe added 12 to help Moorpark High defeat Rio Mesa of Oxnard 56-42 in the quarterfinals of the Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  boys' basketball tournament Wednesday night at Simi Valley High.

The Musketeers (2-0) will play Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. Keith Lawrence contributed 10 points and Koorosh Adibzadeh had eight rebounds as Moorpark (2-0) limited the Spartans (1-1) to five points in the second quarter to take a 26-17 halftime lead.

In Simi Valley games at Camarillo High:

--Taft 72, Littlerock 66: Despite missing three key players - Steve Smith, Chris Catoe and Lance Broadus - who are with the football team, the Toreadors of Woodland Hills beat the Lobos (1-2) in a quarterfinal game.

After trailing by 10 points in the third quarter, Littlerock used a 15-4 run to take a 58-57 lead. Mike Creel keyed the run with eight points.

Saugus, which led 41-21 at halftime, also got nine points from Saam Golpashin. Brian Gilbert, John Newcombe John David Newcombe AO OBE (born May 23, 1944 in Sydney, Australia) is a former World No. 1 tennis champion.

A natural athlete, as a boy Newcombe played several sports until devoting himself to tennis.

--Harvard-Westlake 69, Ridgeview 56: Bryce Taylor Bryce Taylor is an American college basketball player at the University of Oregon. The 6'5", 205 pound junior guard is currently averaging 14.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg. High School  and Bobby Weinborger combined for 36 points and Ed White added 11 as the Wolverines of Studio City earn the victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

At the Lady Falcon Tip-Off Classic:

--Crescenta Valley 62, Rio Mesa 40: Guard Jeanine Deno and center Erin Adkins scored 20 of the Falcons' first 33 points as the tournament hosts beat the Spartans of Oxnard (0-2) in a second-round game.

Deno (19 points, six rebounds) and Adkins (14 points, eight rebounds) led Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  (1-1) despite a game-high 24 points from Rio Mesa's Marie Ayala.

--Notre Dame 55, Hoover 35: Melissa Hodeib connected on five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points to spark the Knights of Sherman Oaks (2-0). Hoover of Glendale (1-1) was led by Arsineh Eskandari's 20 points.

--Canyon 59, Simi Valley 52: Erica Doyle scored 19 points and Ashley Palmer added 18 for the Cowboys.

Teresa Cooper led the Pioneers (1-2) with 16 points, and Mikali Bender added 12 in the Pioneers' third game in three nights.

--Montclair Prep 69, Crescenta Valley JV 44: Eshaya Murphy Eshaya "Shay" Murphy (born April 15 1985, in Canoga Park, California) is an American professional basketball player in the WNBA, currently playing for the Minnesota Lynx.

Murphy attended college at USC and graduated in 2007.
 followed her 19-point opening-night performance with a 32-point game for the Mounties of Van Nuys (1-1).

Jessie Mira added 14 points for Montclair Prep. Jessica Chessum's scored 14 points to lead the Falcons.
