Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer

LANCASTER - Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
High has a strong basketball tradition, but there was little evidence of that last season, when the Antelopes went 0-10 in the Golden League.

But this season's Antelope Valley team features a new coach and a slew of hard-working juniors. Tom Hegre, who has coached the Littlerock girls' team for the past six seasons, looks to have the Antelopes pushing the ball in the open court.

``I like to play a style that's exciting to watch,'' Hegre said. ``The kids on this team want to win this year. We have a lot of good athletes on this team and they're working very hard.''

Hegre said the key for his team is its willingness and ability to run the fast break.

``Being a running team isn't something you can coach,'' he said. ``It has to become a habit.''

Hegre said Williams has exceptional quickness and leaping ability and is one of the league's most exciting players. Although he is just 5-6, he can dunk.

Junior forward/center Steve Wilkins (6-4) is the Antelopes' tallest and most physical player. He has limited varsity experience but will be counted on for defense and rebounding.

Sophomore Keith Adderly, 5-10, is an up-and-coming player expected to play both forward positions. He is a solid shooter with good leaping ability and a nose for the basketball. His scrappy scrap·py 1

When the football season ends, Hegre should get contributions from juniors Greg Culver cul·ver
