PREP BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS: TAFT OVERCOMES FOUL PLAY.

Taft survived 28 team fouls and a furious fourth quarter comeback by visiting Sylmar for a 65-59 victory in a city championship first round game.

Sylmar (12-12), which was called for 21 fouls, cut Tafts' 12 point halftime lead to just three when Louis Darby (10 points) followed his own rebound with 32 seconds remaining. But Mustafa Asghari hit a pair of free throws and Gregg Guenther Gregg Guenther, Jr. (born January 29, 1982 in Calabasas, CA) is a National Football League tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals. College career
Guenther played basketball and football at the University of Southern California.
 (12 points, 19 rebounds) added another to clinch the game for the Toreadors (20-2).

``Fouls are part of the game, but we were committing riduculous fouls out in the open court where the man couldn't even hurt us,'' Taft coach Mark Durcher said. ``But we hung tough even with Gregg and Ron (Gray) in foul trouble and Collins Ezevka (12 points) played his best game of the year.''

Guard Ramall Goodrich led the Vikings with 21 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Monroe (19-7) got as close as eight points with 1:09 to play.

Viking leading scorer Robert Palafox had just 12 points, half on 3-pointers.

Alfredo Cuevas turned in five steals, four rebounds and three points, The three points on a 3-pointer that kept the Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  lead to eight points.

44, Locke 40: Ashley Shelton scored 12 points to lead Chatsworth to a first-round playoff victory. Chatsworth freshman Summer Johnson scored 11 points off the bench.

Chatsworth went on a 15-4 run to open the third quarter and tied the score 40-40 with 22 seconds left in the game. Pam Clark put Chatsworth ahead 42-40 and Sheltons' two free throws put the game out of reach with 4 seconds left.

Burroughs (17-7) had rallied from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit to tie the game at 54-54 with 2:15 left. Justin Ambos scored 10 of his game high 24 in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback attempt.

Jordan O'Gilvie put the Eagles (17-9) into a position to win on its final drive by nailing two 3-point baskets in the final two minutes of the game and by tying the score at 49, but Ellis Myles popped the ball out of O'Gilivie's hands with nine seconds to play when O'Gilvie tried to break a fullcourt press. Myles then sealed the win with the layup at the other end.

Scott Borchart had 15 points and Tito Hill had added 11 for the Eagles.

--Buckley 70, Montclair Prep 66: Colin Ward-Henniger scored on a rebound lay-up with 13.3 seconds remaining to give Buckley one of the biggest wins in school history.

Ward-Henniger (23 points), Alex Clancy and David Gale combined for 57 points for the Griffins (21-2). Buckley kept Montclair Prep off balance the whole game by nailing 10 3-pointers.
