Unfortunately, their basketball teammates will miss the football game since they will be on the road in a nonleague game versus Edison of Huntington Beach Huntington Beach, city (1990 pop. 181,519), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast, across from Santa Catalina Island, in an oil-producing area; inc. 1909.  the basketball game, Canyon's coach Chad Phillips gave it his best.

``I tried to reschedule our game for a morning time so we can support them,'' said Phillips. ``But Edison wouldn't do it, so we're hoping to be there to catch the second half.''

His current roster has 10 players who have been playing together since the summer and now he has to find a way to get everyone playing time when he refreshes the roster to 15 just in time for Foothill league play.

The biggest challenge for Phillips is finding chemistry when Longshore and Diluigi rejoin re·join 1

the team, a challenge that he looks forward to.

``It's hard to know what's going to happen when they come back,'' said Phillips, entering his seventh year as head coach. ``This isn't an easy transition, but these guys are athletic and have enough knowledge of the game to make a smooth transition.''

Longshore, quarterback of the football team, is being missed right now. Not because of his talent but also because of his leadership.

``Ben (Longshore) isn't our leading scorer but him coming in and leading the team will make a difference,'' Phillips said. ``They have to earn a starting role just like everyone else, and all the players are going to enjoy having them on the team.''

With a team missing five players to football for fifteen weeks, underclassmen like 6-foot-8 junior Cody Anderson and 6-foot-4 sophomore Mike Edwards are getting the bulk of the minutes.

``We're very competitive and nobody expected us to rebuild,'' said Phillips, who guided the Cowboys cowboys, in American history.

``For now, I know football is their priority, and I'll give up a few losses for those guys to win a state championship.''
