PREP BASEBALL: CHATSWORTH MAKES STATEMENT CHANCELLORS CLOBBER RIVAL ECR IN EARLY WEST VALLEY SHOWDOWN CHATSWORTH 13, ECR 3.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

This is the way the Chatsworth High baseball team wants to begin every week.

The Chancellors, who turned in lackluster performances in early-week games the past two weeks, had more than enough intensity, hitting and everything else needed to defeat a quality team Monday.

Chatsworth needed only five innings INNINGS, estates. Lands gained from the sea by draining. Cunn. L. ``It wasn't easy,'' Dominguez said. ``We just had a fortunate day swinging the bat, and I think (Justin) Cassel pitched a good game.''

(8-3, 2-1) has given up 25 runs in back-to-back losses. The Conquistadores weren't helped by some questionable calls Monday but hurt themselves even more.

The fifth inning was characteristic of ECR's woes as the Conquistadores committed their fourth error, and reliever Jon Selb walked in a run and hit the next batter on the first pitch to force in another run and end the game with no outs.

Meanwhile, Chatsworth improved to 11-0 even though it has lost second baseman second baseman

Cassel (4-0) struck out six, walked three and didn't allow more than one base runner in an inning until the fourth.

``It's a nice win,'' Chatsworth coach Tom Meusborn said. ``But there's still a lot of games left to play. We're not real concerned with the score. We're more concerned about how we played. We're happy we played well on a Monday.

``We'd talked about that, playing the way we play later in the week at the beginning of the week, since we haven't been doing that.''
