PREP BASEBALL: CANYON BATS ERUPT IN 7TH COWBOYS SCORE 13 TO ICE GAME; PROSPECT COASH STRIKES OUT 14 CANYON 17, SAUGUS 1.

SAUGUS - Jake Coash is uncertain why the flock flock

Those who left Tuesday's Foothill League game at Saugus early missed a lot more than Coash's dominant finish. Coash, who had a season-high 14 strikeouts, struck out the final seven batters BATTeRS (バッターズ) stands for Bisei Asteroid Tracking Telescope for Rapid Survey.  (3-1) and Luke Ajer had kept one of the region's most productive offenses relatively quiet. Cody Leavitt's two-run home run in the third inning was Canyon's first hit. Eric Ashbrook, who went 3 for 4, drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly in the third. Josh Schreck, who singled twice, scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.

``It's outstanding, the offensive performance today,'' Coash said. ``That was nice.''

Coash (4-1) gave up his only run in the first inning. Singles by Josh Fogel and Matt Underwood combined with a hit batter loaded the bases for Saugus (8-2, 3-1) with no outs. A walk to Matt Romero forced in the run. Fogels' two-out single in the second inning was Saugus' final hit.

``This was not characteristic of our offense,'' Saugus coach Casey Burrill said. ``But they had a great arm throwing for them. I thought he threw a great game.''

The Cowboys fell out of first place last week when they lost to Hart of Newhall for their lone loss of the season.

``It was really important for us to win this,'' Coash said. ``We just wanted to come out and get back in first place.''

Neither Canyon nor Saugus has won a league title in more than a decade.

``I hope this is a feeling we don't enjoy and we come Thursday ready to face Hart and to make sure this doesn't happen again,'' Burrill said.
