PRAXAIR OFFICIAL GASES SUPPLIER FOR WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES

 BUFFALO, N.Y., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX) has been named "Official Supplier of Gases" for the World University Games to be held in Buffalo, N.Y., July 8-18. Praxair will provide oxygen for 35 medical centers, helium for balloons and other inflatables, plus gases for special effects at the opening and closing ceremonies.
 The World University Games are the largest international sporting event in the world this year. The Games take place every two years and are being held in the United States for the first time in their 70 year history. Attracting over 5,000 college athletes from more than 130 countries, the Games feature competition in twelve sports: track and field, baseball, basketball, swimming, diving, water polo, fencing, gymnastics, rowing, soccer, tennis and volleyball. Baseball and women's soccer are included for the first time this year.
 In addition to supplying gases, Praxair is supporting the Games as a "Gold Medal Patron," and is providing employee volunteers who have expertise as accountants, purchasing agents, translators, and other professionals needed to conduct an international event of this size. The company is also hosting several special receptions for the World University Games at its Technology Center in Tonawanda, N.Y., a suburb of Buffalo. At the first reception, held on May 19, Dr. Leroy T. Walker, president of the United States Olympic Committee, spoke to about 250 Games' employees and volunteers.
 The World University Games attract twice as many participants as the Winter Olympics and the Pan American Games. This event will be the largest international sports competition held in the world in 1993.
