PRAIRIECOMM BRINGS EDGE BASEBAND PROCESSOR TO MARKET.

PrairieComm Inc. announced recently the production sample availability of its PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

(2) (Peripheral Component Interconnect) The most widely used I/O bus (peripheral bus).
3800 EDGE integrated baseband processor supporting GSM, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations. , EDGE and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA).  wireless communications wireless communications

The PCI3800 from PrairieComm is the industry's only baseband IC that supports the GSM, GPRS, EDGE and TDMA standards for wireless telephony telephony without wires, usually employing electric waves of high frequency emitted from an oscillator or generator, as in wireless telegraphy. A telephone transmitter causes fluctuations in these waves, it being the fluctuations only which affect the receiver.

Availability of production samples of the PCI3800 further strengthens PrairieComm's role in enabling next-generation rate mobile communications. PrairieComm's PCI3800 enables handset manufacturers to develop voice and high-data rate wireless devices for use in all world markets where GSM or TDMA is deployed.

"PrairieComm is setting the standard in realizing high-speed packet-data services for wireless technologies," said Jim Kamke, vice president of product marketing for PrairieComm. "As a leader in multi-standard baseband ICs, PrairieComm's common-platform architecture allows us to develop processors that support multiple air interfaces. As a result, carriers can support legacy standards while simultaneously offering a clear migration path to 3G services."

The PCI3800 supports today's 2G enhanced services and the 3G-compliant high-speed wireless data services of tomorrow. Enabling data rates of up to 384kbps in a mobile environment, the PCI3800 is fully compliant with GSM series 4, 5 and 11.10 specifications and TIA/EIA-136-270 specifications. Subsequently, data rates enabled by the PrairieComm PCI3800 will allow carriers to offer subscribers wireless services previously unavailable in a mobile environment.

PrairieComm Inc., based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., develops and markets chipsets, embedded software and licensed intellectual property for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. , TDMA, GSM and 3G UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) The GSM implementation of the 3G wireless phone system. Part of IMT-2000, UMTS provides service in the 2 GHz band and offers global roaming and personalized features.  wireless technologies that give its customer-partners "The Power To Compete" in the worldwide digital cellular marketplace. PrairieComm is at the heart of wireless personal communications providing chipsets for products from the world's leading consumer electronics manufactures. n
