PR NEWSWIRE PLAYS KEY INFORMATIONAL ROLE DURING HURRICANE
NEW YORK, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- As Hurricane Andrew battered parts of Florida and Louisiana, PR NEWSWIRE once again proved its value as a vital crisis communications vehicle. Government agencies, electric utilities, telecommunications firms, insurance companies and relief groups were among those who turned to PRN to update the media on their activities.
PR NEWSWIRE emerged as a prime source of news and information to local and national news organizations during the devastating weather disturbance, filing more than 500 hurricane-related stories. National summaries kept editors informed of the latest news developments.
Key news sources such as Florida Power & Light, Bell South, AT&T, MCI and the Salvation Army used PRN's circuits to provide updates to the media -- and frequently to their own employees. In addition, leading insurers, including Aetna, ITT Hartford, Cigna, MetLife and Kemper, utilized PRN to reach distressed policy-holders in the affected areas.
PRN's satellite communications network withstood the fury of Hurricane Andrew, experiencing no down time. To supplement their wire distribution, clients were able to use "Pronto On-Call," the latest technological advance in crisis communications. This facsimile service enables callers to retrieve documents and other information that has been previously stored by companies and municipalities.
PRN's Miami bureau, which was closed Sunday through Wednesday, reopened on Thursday and suffered no damage. New York headquarters and the Atlanta office handled the bulk of client copy while Miami was closed.
Although PR NEWSWIRE is most widely recognized as a leading source of corporate news and financial information, it has repeatedly demonstrated its value as an information conduit during times of crisis.
PR NEWSWIRE is the largest and most widely used distributor of corporate news to the media, meeting the needs of investor relations, public relations and other communications professionals since 1954. It has been the preferred means for corporations to distribute releases that meet their timely disclosure obligations to the regulators and the markets. With 20 bureaus strategically located across the United States, and affiliates around the globe, PR NEWSWIRE is able to transmit releases to virtually any location specified by clients.
