PPG Announces Management Assignments.

PITTSBURGH -- PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) today announced a series of management assignments effective May 1.

J. Rich Alexander, vice president, industrial coatings, has been elected senior vice president, coatings, responsible for the industrial, aerospace and architectural business units as well as coatings in the Asia/Pacific region.

Garry A. Goudy, vice president, automotive aftermarket, has been elected senior vice president, automotive aftermarket. Goudy will continue to be responsible for PPG's automotive refinish, automotive replacement glass and insurance and services businesses. In addition, he'll be responsible for Latin America.

Victoria M. Holt, vice president, fiber glass, has been elected senior vice president, glass and fiber glass, responsible for the fiber glass, flat glass and automotive OEM glass business units.

Kevin F. Sullivan, vice president, chemicals, has been elected senior vice president, chemicals. Sullivan will continue to be responsible for PPG's chlor-alkali, fine chemicals, silicas and optical products businesses.

William A. Wulfsohn, vice president, coatings, Europe, and managing director, PPG Europe, has been elected senior vice president, coatings, and managing director, PPG Europe. He will be responsible for automotive OEM and packaging business units as well as PPG's coatings operations in Europe.

Additionally, Maurice V. Peconi, vice president, corporate development, will become vice president, corporate development and services. In addition to corporate development and information technology, Peconi will be responsible for purchasing and distribution; corporate marketing and communications; and quality.

The company also announced today the composition of its executive committee and a newly formed operating committee.

Charles E. Bunch, president and chief executive officer, who as previously announced becomes chairman and CEO July 1; James C. Diggs, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary; and William H. Hernandez, senior vice president, finance, will constitute the company's executive committee.

In addition to those named above, the following will be among the 14 individuals serving on the operating committee: Aziz Giga, vice president, strategic planning; Kathleen McGuire, vice president, purchasing and distribution; David B. Navikas, vice president and controller; James A. Trainham, vice president, science and technology; and Charles W. Wise, vice president, human resources.

Alexander joined PPG in 1978 as a fiber glass sales representative based in Detroit. He was named director of marketing for fiber glass reinforcements in 1992 and appointed director of marketing and sales, fiber glass electronics and specialty materials, in 1995. He became general manager of electronics and specialty materials in 1996, and general manager, fiber glass reinforcements, in 1997. He was appointed global general manager, general industrial coatings, in 2000, and elected vice president, industrial coatings, in 2002.

Goudy joined subsidiary PPG Canada Inc. in 1970 as a sales and marketing trainee in Toronto and progressed through a series of glass assignments before being named general manager of North American glass branch distribution in 1988. He later was general manager of North American flat glass sales and marketing; general manager of North American glass trade products; and general manager of auto replacement glass. He was elected vice president, automotive replacement glass, in 1997; vice president, automotive refinish coatings, in 2001; and to his current post in 2004.

Holt joined PPG in February 2003 from Solutia, where she had been vice president and general manager of performance films. She began her career with Monsanto in 1979 selling commodity and specialty chemicals and rose to become vice president and general manager of Acrilan, a global acrylic fiber business that is part of Solutia, the chemicals business spun off by Monsanto in 1997. In 1998 she was named vice president of Saflex, which manufactures the raw materials and plastic sheet used in laminated automotive and architectural glass.

Sullivan joined PPG as a management trainee in the company's fiber glass business in 1973 and was a sales representative in Atlanta and then Cleveland before being named reinforcements marketing manager in 1981. He was named Cincinnati zone sales manager the following year and director of fiber glass sales in 1985. Sullivan was appointed general manager, fiber glass reinforcements, in 1990, and elected vice president, fiber glass, in 1997. He was elected vice president, chemicals, in 2002.

Wulfsohn joined PPG in February 2003 from Honeywell, where he had been vice president and general manager of nylon systems. He joined Honeywell in 2000 from Rohm & Haas, where he was vice president, corporate officer and automotive coatings business director. He joined Rohm & Haas when the company acquired Morton International in 1999, where he had been vice president and general manager of automotive coatings. He joined Morton in 1990 as industrial coatings director of marketing.

Peconi joined PPG in 1972 as a programmer and became corporate economist in 1983. He was named manager of corporate planning services in 1984, director of corporate investments in 1988, general manager of aircraft special products in 1989 and general manager of flat glass products in 1994. Peconi was named general manager of architectural coatings in 1995 and elected vice president, architectural coatings, in 1997. He was elected vice president, electronic commerce, in 2000, and to his current post in early 2002.

Pittsburgh-based PPG is a global supplier of coatings, glass, fiber glass and chemicals, with 108 manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates in 23 countries. Sales were $9.5 billion in 2004.
