POWERSOFT CORPORATION ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF POWERSOFT ENTERPRISE SERIES 4.0.


CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 14, 1994 -- Powersoft Corporation (company) Powersoft Corporation - A leading vendor of client/server application development tools.

In February 1994, Watcom became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Powersoft Corporation which merged with Sybase on 13 February 1995.
 today announced the immediate availability of the Powersoft Enterprise Series 4.0, the new release of its market-leading family of database-independent, scalable client/server development tools. The Powersoft Enterprise Series 4.0 includes PowerBuilder Enterprise for Windows, the family's flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation. , PowerBuilder Team/ODBC for Windows, PowerBuilder Desktop for Windows and InfoMaker, the company's second-generation personal data access, management and reporting tool. Versions for Macintosh and Motif are expected to ship in early 1995.

The Powersoft Enterprise Series 4.0 features enhanced native database support for Oracle7, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server A relational DBMS from Microsoft that is a major component of the Windows Server System. It is Microsoft's high-end client/server database and is closely integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio and the Microsoft Office System.  and Sybase System An earlier family of SQL development tools from Sybase that included SQL Server, SQL Toolset (design, development and control) and Client/Services Interfaces (distributed database architecture). It also extends open database connectivity with enhanced drivers that support ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) A database programming interface from Microsoft that provides a common language for Windows applications to access databases on a network.  2.0. All Enterprise Series products include the new Watcom SQL A relational DBMS for DOS, Windows, NetWare and OS/2 developed by Watcom International Corporation, Waterloo, Ontario. Watcom SQL evolved into Sybase SQL Anywhere when it was acquired by Powersoft and then Sybase.  4.0 database, with support for advanced database features including stored procedures and triggers. The new Data Pipeline feature of the Enterprise Series provides the capability to transport data between heterogeneous databases and multiple locations.

PowerBuilder Enterprise for Windows features full support for 16- and 32-bit Windows environments on Intel platforms including Windows 3.1, Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  and Win OS/2. It has additional features for high-performance application development, including enhanced native connectivity for Informix, Microsoft, Oracle and Sybase.

PowerBuilder Team/ODBC for Windows is a Windows 3.1 version of PowerBuilder that provides team development capabilities and server database connectivity through ODBC.

PowerBuilder Desktop for Windows is designed to meet the needs of individual developers who want to build Windows applications with Watcom SQL and desktop databases.

InfoMaker for Windows is Powersoft's second generation personal data access, management and reporting tool.

PowerBuilder Enterprise 4.0 for Windows is priced at $3,295.-(a) PowerBuilder Team/ODBC for Windows is priced at $2,295. PowerBuilder Desktop for Windows is priced at $695. InfoMaker for Windows is priced at $249. All products are shipping immediately and are available directly from Powersoft and its worldwide network of resellers and distributors. A variety of upgrade programs are available for current Powersoft Enterprise Series 3.0 users.
