PALMDALE - The Palmdale Water District will spend more money looking at the idea of going into the solar- or wind-power business, or even forming an electrical utility for central and eastern Palmdale. The district's board has asked for more work from a consultant who did a $230,000 study tentatively ten·ta·tive adj. 1. Not fully worked out, concluded, or agreed on; provisional: tentative plans. 2. The second part will develop concepts for solar- and wind-power projects, such as solar panels on water district buildings or tanks, or wind turbines on the Sierra Pelona ridge southwest of Palmdale. It will likely be paid about $65,000 for the wind and solar power study, and less than that for the municipal utility research, LaMoreaux said. Edison officials say they are happy to work with the water district in creating solar- and wind-power projects, but will fight in court any effort to take its power lines and other property in Palmdale. ``Our system is not for sale,'' Edison spokeswoman Alis Clausen said. Edison officials say the water district would lose more than $160 million over 10 years in trying to deliver electricity as well as water to its customers. Clausen questioned the wisdom of paying more money to the firm that did the original study to examine Edison's analysis of it. ``They could have another body look at it,'' she said.
