POWER OF THE PC MAKES TAX PLANNING QUICK, CONVENIENT

RESTON, Va., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Congress may still be negotiating an economic package and April 15 may be more than six months away, but experts agree now is the time to make plans for next spring's returns.
With the help of their trusty PCs, your tax preparer can easily answer "what if" questions about your personal situation.
CPA Keith Washington suggests that individuals begin to work with their professional preparers now to be ready for the coming year. In addition to alterations in the tax law, changes in the family's circumstances or finances can have a significant impact on the final 1040 return. By planning now, that impact can be positive rather than negative.
"Tax preparers have more responsibility than ever to help their clients plan," says Washington, manager of tax product development at Best Programs, Reston, publishers of Tax Partner Planner software. "The uncertainty of this year's law changes is a challenge. But it's also an opportunity for preparers to help their clients save money and be ready for whatever happens."
Armed with programs such as Tax Partner Planner, which pulls data directly from Best's Tax Partner 1040 preparation software, preparers can incorporate changes made to the tax law to see the effects immediately. They can also work through different family scenarios for a single year or project several years into the future.
"Start with your last return," suggests Washington. "Your preparer can review items that are likely to change in the law, and you can provide information on your family situation. Together, you can easily plan for the next several years to reduce your tax liability."
