POTASH CORPORATION OF SASKATCHEWAN INC. RESPONDS TO COMPLAINT

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (NYSE: POT; Toronto, Montreal: POT) (PCS) has become aware of a complaint filed April 1, 1993, in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, Minneapolis Division, in which PCS and its wholly owned subsidiary, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Sales Ltd. (PCS Sales), are two of 14 named defendants. The complaint has not been served on either PCS or PCS Sales.
The complaint alleges a conspiracy among the defendants to fix the price of potash purchased by the plaintiffs as well as potash purchased by the members of a class proposed by the plaintiffs. According to the complaint, the supposed price fixing scheme began in 1987 and continued thereafter. The complaint seeks unspecified damages and other relief.
So far as the allegations of wrongdoing relate to PCS and PCS Sales, they are without merit and are wholly and unequivocally denied.
Historically the potash industry has been characterized by vigorous competition as evidenced by fluctuating prices, changing market shares and frequent price discounting by producers.
PCS and PCS Sales consider the allegations of price fixing and conspiracy to be unfounded and malicious. They will take all available steps to defend against the charges and maintain their reputation, including legal action where appropriate.
