Powers suffered minor injuries when a small mixed breed dog bit him on his shin while he was on his Quartz Hill delivery route. Powers was taken to a doctor who stitched his wound and gave him a tetanus tetanus (tĕt`nəs, –ənəs) or lockjaw, acute infectious disease of the central nervous system caused by the toxins of Clostridium tetani.  shot.

"He seemed fine, but as soon as he came off the leash he came right at me," Powers said of the incident.

"It just happened so quick."

Powers acknowledged that it could have been a lot worse.

And he's hopeful a national public awareness campaign will make such incidents occur less frequently.
