POST RANCH INN AT BIG SUR, CALIF., TO MARK HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN MAY

BIG SUR, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Post Ranch Inn, an exclusive 30-unit private luxury resort located in Big Sur, which was the subject of the cover story of the August 1992 issue of Travel & Leisure magazine and which continues attracting guests from virtually throughout the world, will mark its highly successful one-year anniversary milestone May 1, 1993. Situated on a spectacular 98-acre parcel directly overlooking the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline across Highway 1 from the Ventana Inn, Post Ranch Inn was the first major resort inn to be built in the region in 19 years.
Easily accessible by car and air (via the nearby Monterey airport) and designed with the preservation of the local surroundings uppermost in mind, Post Ranch Inn met with rare unanimous approval by the Monterey County Planning Commission.
Intimately involved with the secluded ocean-front Post Ranch Inn property, site of one of Big Sur's oldest ranches, is area resident Bill Post, a descendant of Big Sur pioneer William Brainard Post. In keeping with the strong historical connection to the region, Post Ranch Inn's overall theme is local tradition and culture, with Bill Post having named each of the Inn's units after original Big Sur settlers.
Project manager of Post Ranch Inn is William McLeod. The architect is G.K. "Mickey" Muennig and the general manager is Janice Donald. The resort's interior designer is Janet Freed, and Alexander Julian has designed the clothing for the Post Ranch Inn staff.
Designed to offer its guests both simple elegance and world-class comfort, as well as a unique level of privacy and personalized attention, Post Ranch Inn is comprised of two lodges and 30 custom guest units.
The Inn's main lodge, located alongside the guest units on the ridge overlooking the Big Sur Coast, houses a restaurant for Post Ranch guests -- Sierra Mar -- a bar and a small library featuring Big Sur historical books and artifacts. A second lodge is located below the ridge next to the parking area and houses all guest check-in, management and reservations facilities. No private vehicles are allowed on the ridge, with transportation on the ridge being provided by shuttles. Neither the main lodge nor guest units are visible from the highway.
Post Ranch Inn offers four distinct guest unit styles. Of the 30 total, five are units referred to as "Ocean Houses," recessed into the side of the ridge and featuring sod roofs; seven are "Tree House" units on stilts to protect the redwood tree roots; 10 are cylinder units call "Coast Houses;" two are cylinder units dubbed "Mountain Houses"; and six are guest units located in a three-level "Butterfly House."
Post Ranch Inn also offers guests a basking pool featuring a spectacular view of the ocean, as well as a lap pool, located close to the reception lodge with a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.
The Post family tradition in Big Sur and environs extends back to the mid-1800s, when William B. Post married a Carmel Valley Mission Indian woman named Anselma Onesimo and later homesteaded 640 acres along the coast. By 1867, the Post family had acquired more than 1,000 additional pristine acres along the Central California coast and built the first part of the Post Ranch house (where the region's first continuously operating post office was located). One hundred years later, their descendants were living in a new Post Ranch home on the west side of the highway near where the new Inn is located. Those seeking to place reservations at Post Ranch Inn may call 800-527-2200 or 408-667-2200.
