PORTAL SOFTWARE'S INFRANET NOW AVAILABLE ON IBM ESERVER PSERIES SYSTEM.

Portal Software Portal Software was founded in 1985 as Portal Information Network, one of the first ISPs in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was founded by John Little. The company offered its own interface through modem access that featured Internet email. , Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSF PRSF Presidio of San Francisco (US National Park Service)

pSeries enterprise UNIX servers. The pSeries supports mission critical e-business applications and provides Portal and IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  customers with key performance, scalability, availability and support advantages.

Monaco Telecom is one of the first companies worldwide to run Infranet on the IBM pSeries platform (see separate press release issued today titled Monaco Telecom Chooses Portal Software for 2G and 3G Convergent Billing).  services to a rapidly growing number of subscribers.

"Monaco Telecom's customers demand innovative services. Infranet was chosen because of its flexibility for tariffing, support for pre- and postpaid customers, and the fact that it enables us to work with just one billing platform for our 2G/3G, ISP and wireline services. Infranet proved to be the best solution for Monaco Telecom, and the fact that it's supported on the IBM AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system which runs on its Intellistation workstations and pSeries, p5, iSeries and i5 server families.  operating system is an additional advantage," said Thierry Poyet, IT manager, Monaco Telecom.

The combination of Portal's Infranet with IBM's pSeries provides communications and content service providers with a highly reliable and scalable e-business infrastructure. Infranet enables communications and content service providers to deliver multiple, convergent services including wireless, voice, and data. It also allows service providers the flexibility to bill for those services on a usage-based, flat fee, value-based, post-paid, or pre-paid basis.

," said Michel Teyssedre, vice president, server sales, eServer at IBM. "At the same time, investing in capacity that may never be required is expensive and unnecessary.

IBM is glad to be working with Portal to offer solutions to effectively manage business infrastructures in today's quickly evolving and unpredictable market. As an ideal platform for Portal's leading customer management and billing software, the IBM pSeries meets the business-critical needs of our customers' most demanding computing environments."

The IBM eServer is designed to serve a broad range of applications serving medium to large mission- critical business systems. The enterprise pSeries line is powered by IBM's breakthrough Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI (Silicon On Insulator) A chip architecture that increases transistor switching speed by reducing capacitance (build-up of electrical charges in the transistor's elements), and thus reducing the discharge time. The power requirement is also reduced in some designs. ) microprocessor technology and IBM's highly rated AIX operating system -- to provide the highest levels of security, systems management, and Web performance. Configurations are available to suit any purpose, from the rack mountable pSeries 640 and the midrange Model F80 to the high-end pSeries 680 and RS/6000 SP enterprise servers. These servers deliver the capabilities needed for a successful e-business: server performance, scalability, availability, security, connectivity and support. Portal's Infranet is available on IBM's AIX 4.3.3and 5.1, which supports IBM's newly announced high end Regatta eServers.

Portal and IBM announced earlier this year that they teamed to integrate IBM's WebSphere Everyplace eve·ry·place

Suite with Infranet to offer a comprehensive, carrier-grade, 3G-ready infrastructure solution for wireless operators. IBM's WebSphere Everyplace Suite is a software platform designed to extend the reach of e-business applications and content to the mobile Internet. Portal Software's Infranet is the customer management and billing platform that provides a convergent solution enabling wireless network and content service providers to launch and bill for 2.5 and 3G services within a highly scalable infrastructure. With the addition of pSeries support for Infranet, operators can leverage the end-to-end server, software, and services capabilities of IBM to accelerate the deployment of an advanced, personalized wireless services infrastructure.
