PORT AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES DISASTER DRILL AT NEWARK INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT
More than 300 representatives of local emergency organizations will participate in an aircraft disaster drill at Newark International Airport on Saturday, Oct. 3, 1992.
The annual exercise, which will begin immediately following an 8:30 a.m. briefing at the airport's administration building, will simulate the crash of a Boeing 727 landing at the airport.
More than 150 "casualties" will be involved in the drill, which will be conducted rain or shine and will conclude by mid-afternoon.
In addition to the Port Authority, agencies participating in the drill include the Newark and Elizabeth police an fire departments, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and more than 30 hospitals in Union, Essex, Hudson and Bergen counties. Many other state, county and municipal organizations will also participate.
NOTE: Media representatives are welcome to attend the 8:30 a.m. briefing, after which they will be transported to the drill site. To reach the airport administration building, following airport signs for "Tower Road" and "Port Authority Administration" (Building 10). The briefing will be held in the third floor conference room. Only press carrying valid credentials will be admitted to the drill site.
