PORSCHE ANNOUNCES RECALL

 PORSCHE ANNOUNCES RECALL
RENO, Nev., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America

Inc. today announced it will recall 11,091 of its 1989-1992 911 Carrera 2 and 911 Carrera 4 models to correct a potential mechanical problem affecting cruise control functioning.
The company reported that on certain cars, the ball sockets on the cruise control linkage can break. If this should occur, the cruise control linkage becomes detached on one end and could jam on nearby components. This could impair the throttle plate operation and prevent the engine from returning to idle.
Porsche said the potential defect was discovered during routine product testing and that it is not aware of any accidents which may have been caused by the defect.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail and advised to discontinue use of their cruise control until their vehicle is repaired. Additionally, they will be asked to bring their automobiles to their Porsche dealer to have the potential problem corrected free of charge. The company has a toll-free number to answer consumer questions about the recall. The toll-free number will be listed in the owner notification letter.
