 PORK PRODUCERS TAKE POKE AT PORK BARREL POLITICS
 CHICAGO, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Pork Producers Council


(NPPC) has called for Washington to cut government waste, not pork, in a full-page ad in Monday's Washington Post and USA Today.
 The ad calls out in large, bold type: "Washington. Don't Cut The Pork. Cut The Waste."
 "While we might have our tongue firmly in our cheek," said Tim Rose, a Kansas pork producer and current president of the NPPC, "it's important that everyone gets our message. Certainly all of us want to cut government waste, but making any comparison between today's pork and waste is as out of date as the cold war."
 In fact, today's pork is more than 30 percent leaner and it's lower in calories and cholesterol than it was just 10 years ago. And when it comes to mealtime, pork is always good for the budget.
 "We think it's time for people to become politically correct and stop talking about cutting out the pork, because it's one of America's favorite meals," said Rose.
 The National Pork Producers Council is a commodity organization that represents approximately 100,000 pork producers throughout the nation.
