The Antelope Valley
hills are brown and the poppies are few, but Lancaster's annual Poppy Festival is going on as scheduled April 20 and 21.

City officials promise there will be poppies in pots at Lancaster City Park, at least.

``If you don't have any poppies in the landscape, you can come to the Poppy Festival and get some seed and go home and plant your own,'' city spokeswoman Anne Aldrich said.

Besides potted California poppies and other wildflowers, the 11th annual festival's main attraction will be music, including Grammy winners Diane Schuur Diane Schuur (b. Blinded at birth due to a hospital accident,[1] the talented and effervescent singer, nicknamed "Deedles," has earned the admiration of many of jazz's greatest musicians.  and The Yellowjackets.

Aldrich was aghast after hearing that two Los Angeles television stations Los Angeles is served by several local television stations including:

reported that the festival was postponed or canceled because the dry winter produced few flowers.

While no abundance of poppies is expected, lack of wildflowers won't stop the festival, she said.

Last spring produced a good display of poppies, but they bloomed mostly after the festival, which had rain on its first day. This year's festival was scheduled later in spring to try to get better weather and more wildflowers, but Mother Nature didn't cooperate.

About 45,000 people are expected to attend.

The festival will run 10 a.m to 6 p.m. April 20 and 21 at Lancaster City Park, 43011 10th St. W.

It will feature arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant.
