Morgan was a jazz prodigy, first picking up the trumpet on about the age of thirteeen or so, after developing an interest in

The 14-track CD, which sells for around $10 at Starbucks' 760 locations, is a tie-in with the store's annual Blue Note Blend, a coffee made of beans from Central America and East Africa.

"Blue Note Blend 2" includes pianist Powell's "Duid Deed," Dizzy Gillespie's "Man From Monterey," Nat King Cole's "Just for the Fun of It," Cannonball Adderley's "One for Daddy-O," Morgan's "The Sidewinder sidewinder, common name for a rattlesnake, Crotalus cerastes, found in the deserts of the SW United States. This 2-ft (60-cm), pale yellow and pink snake is named for its curious method of locomotion. " and Wilson's "Lush Life," among other tracks.

There are also contributions from contemporary jazz artists Holly Cole, the Charlie Hunter Trio and Jacky Terrasson.

The first all-blues soundtrack, for the Alec Baldwin-Kelly Lynch thriller "Heaven's Prisoners," is due April 23, a month before the Phil Joanou-directed movie is released.

The 13-track CD is almost a blues best-of, featuring Junior Wells ("Good Morning Little Schoolgirl"), Albert King ("Born Under a Bad Sign"), Buddy Guy ("Red House"), B.B. King ("Don't Answer the Door"), Walter (Shakey) Horton ("Good Moanin' Blues) and others.

The music for "Heaven's Prisoners" was supervised by Peter Afterman, who created the well-received soundtrack for "The Big Easy," which used New Orleans musicians.

Rockabilly Derby

The Derby in Hollywood has begun a rockabilly night on Tuesdays throughout the month.

This Tuesday, the club has Ray Condo & the Ricochets, a band that blends hillbilly, jump blues and jazz.

March 19 sees the rootsy rock outfit Russell Scott & the Red Hots at the Derby. And the Caballeros come to the club on March 26.

The Derby is at 4500 Los Feliz Blvd., Hollywood. Admission is $5.
