POOLING RESOURCES LANCASTER SWIMMING FACILITY GETS NEW LOCKER BUILDING.

LANCASTER - Jane Reynolds Park's swimming pool will open today for the summer with a new $580,000 locker building.

Part of an ongoing face lift of the city's oldest park, the new building replaces one that was nearly 45 years old and had rusting roof supports and other problems.

It contains locker rooms, reception desk and staff room for pool lifeguards.

Saved from the original building was the 1958 plaque that notes the pool was named for Myrtie Webber, who for decades owned Lancaster's Western Hotel, now a city museum. Webber was 90 when Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County built the pool. She died 20 years later at age 110 in 1978, less than a year after Lancaster became a city.

Myrtie Webber Pool was Lancaster's only public pool until the city built the enclosed Eastside Pool in 1982. Eastside is open year-round; Myrtie Webber Pool is open July 4 through Labor Day Labor Day, holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September to honor the laborer. It was inaugurated by the Knights of Labor in 1882 and made a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894. .
