POLYGRAM DIVERSIFIED ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES BOB MARLEY PAY-PER-VIEW
TELEVISION EVENT PRIOR TO NATIONAL THEATRICAL RELEASE
NEW YORK, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Marley's self-narrated film biography "Time Will Tell" will premiere nationwide on Viewer's Choice and Request pay-per-view channels beginning July 11, making it the first full length feature film to be available on pay-per-view prior to its national theatrical release. PolyGram Diversified Entertainment (PDE) is responsible for this breakthrough pay-per-view event, which will reach between 12 and 13 million homes.
The film, which previewed for a one-week limited run at the NuWilshire in Los Angeles, inspired the Los Angeles Times to write: "It is impossible to watch the stirring, exhilarating tribute 'Bob Marley: Time Will Tell' without experiencing a profound sense of loss. (The film) comes together with the ease and joy of a Marley song." Timothy White wrote in Billboard, "It's the autobiographical mood of this unique film journal that makes it so memorable." "Time Will Tell" was also exhibited at the annual Washington, D.C., International Film Festival last May and received superb reviews.
"Time Will Tell" is the long-awaited biography of reggae legend Bob Marley and the only film created exclusively with Bob Marley's own words about his music, life and times. The film includes rare performance and interview footage, some of which has never been seen before, together with rehearsal footage, newsreel and archival film clips. "Time Will Tell" will feature 26 songs including "Stir It Up," "Coming in from the Cold," "Trenchtown Rock," "I Shot the Sheriff," "Lively Up Yourself," "War," "Jammin'," "No Woman No Cry," "Exodus" and "Natural Mystic."
The film, created by Island, will be theatrically released nationally in September. The pay-per-view presentation kicks off an ambitious multi-media plan which includes a video release as well as a four-CD, limited edition boxed set on Island Records entitled "Songs of Freedom." In addition, the Smithsonian will mount an exhibition of photographs documenting the life of Bob Marley this summer.
"'Time Will Tell' is a tremendous tribute to Bob Marley. I'm pleased it's not an orthodox documentary. Bob's story is best told by Bob himself and the fact the film has no conventional narrative creates a living, autobiographical feel," said Chris Blackwell, CEO of Island Records.
John Scher, president of PDE, said: "PDE is happy to present the first event in the upcoming 'Decade of Marley Music' dedicated to his multitude of worldwide fans. The fact that this historic pay-per-view television event is being presented prior to its theatrical release has made this a very exciting project. What is really important, however, is the stature of Marley's talent and bearing as a legendary artist. 'Time Will Tell' on pay-per-view will draw even more attention to the Marley phenomenon."
PolyGram Diversified Entertainment, part of the New York division of PolyGram, the global entertainment and record company, is committed to producing a wide variety of pay-per-view television events from "Guns N' Roses Invade Paris!" to "Metropolitan Opera's 25th Anniversary Gala at the Met." Their ability to interact with their record labels, marketing, merchandising, promotional services, film and video divisions gives PolyGram Diversified Entertainment the unique ability to create and position pay-per-view television events for maximum success.
