POLICE WARN SENIORS ABOUT SCAM ARTISTS CROOKS TRY TO LURE VICTIMS FROM HOMES.

Byline: Josh Kleinbaum Staff Writer

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A group of scam (SCSI Configured AutoMatically) A subset of Plug and Play that allows SCSI IDs to be changed by software rather than by flipping switches or changing jumpers. Both the SCSI host adapter and peripheral must support SCAM. See SCSI.  artists who lure victims out of their homes and then steal money and jewelry from under their noses has targeted senior citizens in Valley Village and Valley Glen, police said Monday.

Several variations of the same scam - somebody draws the victim out of the house, often into the front or backyard, and keeps the victim distracted while an accomplice accomplice: see accessory.  enters through the unlocked front door and steals money and jewelry - have popped up in recent months.

``It's been happening for a number of years, but we've seen a recent spike,'' North Hollywood patrol Capt. Mike Williams Mike Williams may refer to:

said. ``This crime has become quite a problem.''

In some cases, the scam artists claim they lost a cat or dog, and say they'd like to look for the pet in the backyard. In other cases, they claim to work for a utility company and need to do work in the yard. Sometimes, they even use a child, saying the boy or girl is sick and needs to come inside for water.

In all cases, while the homeowner - always a senior citizen - is distracted, an accomplice steals valuables from the home. This distraction technique had been used five times since the beginning of 2006 and 25 times in the past year, Los Angeles Police Department "LAPD" and "L.A.P.D." redirect here.
