POLICE UNABLE TO CATCH TRIO OF ARMED ROBBERS.Byline: Theresa Moreau Daily News Staff Writer After storming into a San Fernando paging business Tuesday, three armed robbers took $400 and then evaded police in a spectacular chase, authorities said. No injuries were reported in the incident, which began about 10:40 a.m. when the trio entered City-Wide Paging Co. at 2033 Glenoaks Blvd., pulled out handguns and demanded cash, said San Fernando police Sgt. Robert Ordelheide. Only moments after the trio hopped into a getaway car, police were on their trail. Police said they spotted the 1992 Oldsmobile sedan three blocks away from the crime scene, speeding through a red light at the intersection of Maclay Street and Glenoaks Boulevard, nearly causing a head-on collision. One block farther, at Carl Street and Borden Avenue, the driver of the borrowed Oldsmobile was unable to make the turn and crashed, destroying about 50 feet of a chain-link fence. The trio fled on foot into an apartment complex. One 9 mm semiautomatic handgun - previously reported stolen from Kentucky - was found at the scene, police said. Witnesses informed police of the identity of the three robbers, two of whom live in the apartment complex. |
