Helped by a resident, deputies on foot chased the pony along Avenue L-8 before they cornered it at a wall adjoining a housing tract, and the resident slipped a rope around its neck.

``Before it started running into traffic we wanted to get it stopped, get it corralled,'' said Deputy Mark Round of the Lancaster sheriff's station. ``It may not seem like law enforcement work but it's one of the many things we have to deal with in our day-to-day work.''
