Investigators believe that Cosby's flashy car, worth $100,000, may have made him a target.
``But anything is possible, and we're not ruling anything out,'' said Los Angeles police Cmdr. Tim McBride. ``However, at this time, we believe it was random. To our knowledge, there is nothing in his life that contributed to his death.''
McBride described the suspect as being clean-shaven, 25 to 32, average height and weight and wearing a light-colored knit cap.
``There may be a possible second or third suspect,'' McBride said. ``But at this point, we're just looking at one.''

McBride made a plea for the man in the beret to help police.
Descriptions of the two men were compiled from a 47-year-old woman, who was reportedly confronted by the killer, and a security guard patrolling the area at the time of the shooting, according to police.

Police say the woman, who met Cosby a week earlier at a party, reported finding Cosby dead next to his Mercedes-Benz, after he had called her on his cellular telephone to ask for help in changing his tire.

McBride said investigators are examining the tapes.
``We have lots of leads and lots of directions to go in this investigation,'' he said. ``We're by no means desperate.''
In addition, the department is having Cosby's tire analyzed to determine why it went flat.

``We never have any problems there,'' Los Angeles Police Sgt. Dennis Fanning of the West Los Angeles Division said. Fanning said sometimes transients seek shelter under the freeway, but that most crimes committed by transients are limited to burglaries and car radio thefts.
Fanning said Cosby's murder is a reminder that even the city's affluent neighborhoods are not immune to crime.
``This is L.A.; no place is safe,'' he said. ``Just because you're rich doesn't mean you're safe.''
Meanwhile, officials have released Cosby's body. Brokaw said arrangements for a private funeral were being planned but would not be disclosed.

``I'm so sorry for the family,'' said Nanick Smith, a 49-year-old woman who lives up the block on Aqua Verde Drive. ``I saw that he was from a good family and a good man. He was a good, young man, and he had a good education.''

The teens said the elder Cosby's show has been a hit in their homeland for years.
``We got the show on five days a week. We watch it all the time,'' Brett Spagnolo, 16, said. ``It's funny. It's like an actual family. They really gelled together, and you believed everything.''
Sean Parekh, 14, also from Perth, said he recently lost a good friend in a boating accident and empathized with the Cosbys. ``I came because I felt like I probably knew how they felt,'' he said.
