POLICE OFFICER'S WIFE ACCUSED OF SHOOTING HUSBAND IN FIGHT.Byline: EUGENE TONG Staff Writer TARZANA -- The wife of a Los Angeles police officer was in custody Sunday, accused of shooting her husband twice during a domestic dispute and then chasing him in a vehicle, authorities said. The off-duty police officer, whose identity was withheld because he is an alleged domestic violence victim, was treated at a hospital and released. The wife faces attempted murder charges, police spokesman Kevin Maiberger said. The shooting occurred at 11:55 p.m. Saturday when an argument broke out at the couple's apartment in the 18000 block of Hatteras Street. The officer was shot in the left arm and the body, police said. He escaped from the apartment on foot, and police said his wife followed in a vehicle that crashed into a bus stop near Reseda Boulevard and Hatteras Street, nearly striking a woman. ``He ran to that bus stop and ... she crashed into it when she tried to stop him,'' Maiberger said. The wife got out and continued chasing her husband south on Reseda Boulevard, police said. The officer fired what was believed to be a warning shot, Maiberger said. ``It hit the ground and didn't come close to her,'' he said. Police arrived at the scene, treated the woman for breathing problems and arrested her. The husband was taken to a hospital for treatment. eugene.tong(at)dailynews.com (818) 546-3304 |
