Detectives say that Del Rosario ordered the attack, but the man who carried out the crime was three people removed from the person who allegedly paid for the job. Hogan paid Garner $75 to beat up Goldbaum, the detective said. Hogan, in turn, had been hired for $300 by Sylmar resident Roger Alvarez to commit the assault, Nordskog said. Alvarez works at Bernardino's Heating and Air, a business in Northridge that Del Rosario owns. Alvarez and Del Rosario knew Hogan because he had applied for a job at Bernardino's Heating and Air. ``Del Rosario promised a job to Hogan, but he asked him to do a little favor for him first. Hogan was supposed to hire somebody off the streets of L.A. to commit this assault.'' Hogan, Garner and Alvarez went to Valencia on Nov. 7, and ``somebody suggested they get a gallon of gasoline,'' Nordskog said. ``When they got there, the victim refused to answer the door, so they couldn't assault him.'' The men apparently tried to get into Goldbaum's garage to burn his car, but were unable to do so.
