POLAROID SETS NEW STANDARD IN THERMAL IMAGING WITH INTRODUCTION
 OF POLATHERM TRANSPARENCY MEDIUM
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Polaroid Corporation (NYSE: PRD) today introduced PolaTherm, a unique continuous-tone transparency medium for thermal printers used in many technical and business imaging applications.
PolaTherm offers substantial advantages to thermal imaging customers because its clear base produces bright projected images, and its linear response delivers 256 shades of gray for near-photographic-quality images.
"Our patented PolaTherm technology is designed to meet strong customer demand for a direct thermal transparency that delivers a sharper image, better contrast, and more defined shading," said Leonard Polizzotto, director of Scientific and Medical Imaging at Polaroid. "PolaTherm adds a new dimension to our technical imaging solutions that will appeal to a broad set of customers in government, industry and business."
Polatherm is designed for digital and analog thermal printers used in a variety of imaging environments, from microscopy to business presentations. Common applications including scientific documentation and display; satellite imaging and mapping; oil well logging; computer- aided design; surveillence and security; quality control/quality assurance; medical imaging; and theatrical or studio production.
PolaTherm's clarity and light-absorption characteristics also make it an ideal medium for original masks used in diazo printers and copiers for blueprints.
PolaTherm is resistant to fading and its surface is scratch- resistant for easy handling and storage. Users can also write directly on the surface -- an important consideration for presentations.
PolaTherm is available in formats customized for thermal printers from leading manufacturers. Sold and distributed directly by Polaroid and through selected OEMs, PolaTherm is available in rolls of up to 160 feet long in various widths. List price for an 8-1/2 x11-inch thermal image is about $1.50.
More information about PolaTherm can be obtained by calling the Polaroid Technical Assistance Hotline, 800-225-1618.
Polaroid Corporation, with sales of more than $2 billion, is the worldwide leader in instant imaging. The company supplies instant photographic cameras and films, conventional films, videotapes, and electronic visual communication products to family, business, and technical and industrial markets.
