When it comes to the specific items that need lubrication lubrication, introduction of a substance between the contact surfaces of moving parts to reduce friction and to dissipate heat. A lubricant may be oil, grease, graphite, or any substance—gas, liquid, semisolid, or solid—that permits free action of , they work from memory.

Unfortunately, memory isn't always reliable. As a result, lube points are missed or the wrong lubes are used. Eventually, moving parts Moving parts are the components of a device that undergo continuous or frequent motion, most commonly rotation.
