PMCS protects vehicle and operator.

"Okay," you grumble. You've just been appointed the vehicle operator for your section's HMMWV HMMWV High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV is a trademark of AM General LLC; aka HUMVEE, also a trademark of AM General LLC) . You've never been a mechanic and now you're supposed to pull PMCS PMCS PMC Sierra (stock symbol)
PMCS Project Management Control System
PMCS partial mission-capable, supply (US DoD)
PMCS Preventive Maintenance Checks & Services
PMCS Professional Military Comptroller School
, whatever that is. Where do you start?

What makes PMCS more than just a walk-around-the-vehicle-and-kick-the-tires chore?

You, your PMCS worksheet, and your vehicle's technical manual guidelines guidelines,

 for doing PMCS.

No one is more important to your vehicle working properly than you. Doing regular PMCS will prevent major breakdowns and possibly save lives, even your own.

Depending on your unit, you'll use either the DA Form 5988-E, Equipment Maintenance and Inspection Worksheet, or DA Form 2404, Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Worksheet

Operator

By following the TM's PMCS guidelines, you can find minor maintenance items you can fix, like filling the radiator radiator, device used to heat an area surrounding it or to cool a fluid circulating within it. The familiar radiators of steam and hot water heating systems in buildings are misnamed, as they operate principally by convection, in which heat is transferred by air . These minor fixes don't need to be entered on the 5988-E/2404 if you correct them on the spot. If you defer de·fer 1

Your inspection can also find items that need Service you aren't author zed to do. These items are entered on the 5988-E/2404.

Conditions that make the equipment NOT FULLY MISSION CAPABLE should be immediately reported to your maintenance supervisor. These items also are entered or the 5988-E/2404.
