The Jaguar-ATX Evaluation Board Provides Ease of Hardware and

Software Evaluation for High Performance Networking, Storage,

Communications and Printing Applications Requiring High-Speed, Highly

Integrated Multiprocessors

PMC-Sierra(TM), Inc. (Nasdaq:PMCS PMCS PMC Sierra (stock symbol)
PMCS Project Management Control System
PMCS partial mission-capable, supply (US DoD)
PMCS Preventive Maintenance Checks & Services

) today announced the immediate availability of the Jaguar-ATX form factor evaluation board for the RM9000x1(TM) and RM9000x2(TM) highly integrated 1 GHz 64-bit MIPS-based(TM) processors.

The Jaguar-ATX, co-developed by PMC-Sierra and Momentum Computer, also includes Marvell(R)'s industry-leading Discovery(TM) II MV64340 System Controller. The Jaguar-ATX was developed to assist in the development of a variety of high performance networking applications, including enterprise routers, DSLAMS, multiservice switches, high-end laser printers, storage area network (SAN) applications, wireless base stations, and digital imaging. The low power, ATX-form factor board provides an easy, flexible platform to evaluate PMC-Sierra's highly integrated 1 GHz processors.

"The Jaguar development platform, available with either PMC-Sierra's RM9000x2 or RM9000x1 GHz integrated processor, delivers multiple high-speed interfaces that are critical in the development of high performance networking applications," said Tom Riordan, vice president and general manager of the Microprocessor Products Division of PMC-Sierra. "The low power board also provides flexibility to access additional I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

through the mezzanine port that is designed to interface with a steadily increasing number of HyperTransport(TM)-based daughter cards available from third-party partners."

"We are excited about PMC-Sierra's Jaguar-ATX evaluation board as it demonstrates the superior performance and integration of the Marvell Discovery II system controller," said Viren Shah, Marvell's Sr. Marketing Manager for Communications Controllers. "The Jaguar-ATX evaluation board combines Marvell's industry leading MV64340 system controller and the powerful 1 GHz RM9000x1 or the dual 1GHz RM9000x2 multiprocessor from PMC-Sierra to enable customers to expedite the development of next-generation communications applications."

About the Jaguar-ATX Evaluation Board

PMC-Sierra's RM9000x2 and RM9000x1 64-bit MIPS-based processors are supported by Marvell's Discovery II MV 64340 system controller, which interfaces to the processors' SysAD bus and provides multiple gigabit and PCI-X (PCI eXtended) An enhanced PCI bus technology originally developed by IBM, HP and Compaq that is backward compatible with existing PCI cards. PCI and 32-bit PCI-X slots are physically the same, and PCI cards can plug into PCI-X slots.  interfaces. The Jaguar- ATX See ATX motherboard.

(hardware, standard) ATX - An open PC motherboard specification by Intel.

ATX is a development of the Baby AT specification with the motherboard rotated 90 degrees in the chassis.
evaluation boards are available with Wind River VxWorks(TM) and Linux operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap. . The processors' integrated 16 Gbit/s HyperTransport bus interfaces to a plug-in port for HyperTransport-based daughter cards. The Jaguar-ATX evaluation board has two 32-bit, 33 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  PCI slots and two 64-bit, 33/66/100/133 MHz PCI/PCI-X slots. The board supports three 10/100/1000Base T Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  ports that interface to RJ-45 connectors. Also included on the board are 512 Kbytes of Boot Flash memory; 32 Kbytes of NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM) May refer to dynamic RAM (DRAM) and static RAM (SRAM) chips that are backed up by a battery or to non-volatile chips such as flash memory. The Jaguar evaluation board includes support for EJTAG-based emulators, which facilitate hardware and software debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  for the RM9000x2 and RM9000x1 processors.

Availability and Resources

The Jaguar-ATX evaluation board is now available and priced at $4,975. Discounts are available in large quantities. For more information, visit http://www.pmcsierra. com/techSupport/MPDresources.html or email mailto:apps@pmc-sierra.com.

About PMC-Sierra's RM9000 Family of MIPS-based Processors

PMC-Sierra's RM9000 family of highly integrated 64-bit MIPS-based dual- and single-core processors are the foundation for future products that will provide greater processing power through high-performance I/O interconnects designed for networking equipment. The flexibility of the RM9000x2 multiprocessor architecture allows it to address a large number of networking applications in both the control and data planes. The HyperTransport and SysAD buses connect to a wide variety of companion chips, which provide connectivity to high-speed networking interfaces such as Gigabit Ethernet, PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.
