PLUMBER PULLED TO SAFETY : MAN STUCK FOUR HOURS IN TRENCH.

Byline: Patricia Farrell Aidem Daily News Staff Writer

A plumber trapped four hours in a 7-foot trench was pulled to safety Monday by a crew that honed its skills with daring rescues after the Northridge Quake and searches through the ruins of the Oklahoma City Oklahoma City (1990 pop. 444,719), state capital, and seat of Oklahoma co., central Okla., on the North Canadian River; inc. 1890. The state's largest city, it is an important livestock market, a wholesale, distribution, industrial, and financial center, and a farm  federal building.

Justin Lisonbee, 19, was alert and in good condition after a tedious rescue from the confines of a 1-foot-wide trench dug to replace a sewer line Noun 1. sewer line - a main in a sewage system

team, who entered the trench to free Lisonbee.

Lisonbee's boss spent the hours aiding rescuers and lying on the sidewalk on Steinway Street, leaning over the trench comforting Lisonbee.

``He just talked to him, encouraged him, told him what we were doing and that he would be OK,'' Miranda said.

Lisonbee was trapped in about two feet of mud - dirt that collapsed from a 5-foot pile next to the trench and turned viscous with water from an underground main.

``It's thick mud and it creates suction so you can't just pull him out,'' said fire Capt. Rob Smith.

A state occupational safety inspector was examining the accident sight to determine whether there were any violations. The sewer trench was unprotected, although state guidelines require trenches more than 5 feet deep to be shored for safety, said Capt. Larry Collins of the rescue team.

Lisonbee had been kneeling when the mound collapsed into the trench and one leg was wedged under a pipe. His position complicated the rescue work, as did the heavy clay soil removed by rescuers to secure the trench, said Inspector Rob Graham, Fire Department spokesman.

About 30 firefighters and sheriff's deputies were a part of the drama. Among the neighborhood heroes were Allan Babineau and James Hughes who hurried door to door collecting plywood to help firefighters shore the trench.
