PLUM CREEK NAMES RICK R. HOLLEY PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER; DAVID D. LELAND CONTINUES AS CHAIRMAN

SEATTLE, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Plum Creek Timber Co., L.P. (NYSE: PCL) today named Rick R. Holley as its president and chief executive officer. He will succeed David D. Leland on Jan. 1, 1994. Leland will continue to serve as Plum Creek's chairman of the board.
"The board's decision reflects confidence in and enthusiasm for the unique combination of skills and vision Rick possesses," Leland said of the announcement. "Rick Holley brings many years of leadership, an exceptional knowledge of the company's valuable natural resource base and financial expertise to Plum Creek's helm. Mr. Holley's selection from the current senior management team will ensure continuity and stability for Plum Creek as the company goes forward to meet the challenges of the 1990s and beyond."
"Plum Creek is operating in a time of extraordinary opportunities and challenges," Holley said. "Under Dave Leland's guidance, Plum Creek's management team has forged a vision and strategy that have served the company and its stakeholders -- investors, customers, employees, communities and our environment -- well. That management team remains intact and our fundamental vision and strategy will remain unchanged.
"Plum Creek will continue to build on the recognized leadership we've established in the environmental and scientific management of our resource base. Another key element of our success is the partnerships we've forged with our customers across all product lines. We remain committed to providing them with the highest levels of service and quality. And, importantly, we will continually strive to enhance Plum Creek's long-term value for its owners."
Holley, 41, came to Plum Creek in 1985 as vice president and chief financial officer. In 1983, he joined Burlington Northern Inc. where he served as assistant vice president-corporate audit. Holley joined the General Electric Co. in 1974 after his graduation from San Jose State University, holding various financial positions.
Leland, 58, joined Plum Creek as president and chief executive officer in 1983. In December 1992 he assumed the additional responsibilities of chairman. He had announced his intention to relinquish his day-to-day management responsibilities earlier this year.
Plum Creek is an integrated forest products company with timberlands and mills located in the Pacific Northwest.
