MACFAIR MOVES IN: Macintosh lovers, unite. The seventh annual MacFair, Southern California's version of the Apple conference/lovefest MacWorld, is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Burbank Hilton Hotel and Convention Center. More than 120 companies - including Adobe, Claris and Macromedia - will be exhibiting their hardware, software and multimedia products. Admission for all three days is $10 for Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Macintosh Group members and $25 for the general public. TUNE IN TO ZDTV ZDTV Ziff Davis Television : Hoping to lure PC users back to their TVs, media group Ziff-Davis announced the launch of a 24-hour computer users' network. Dubbed ZDTV: Your Computer Channel, the fledgling cable outlet will offer information about buying PCs, investing in high-tech stocks, a nightly show about computer games and reports on interesting Web sites and the people who use them. Officials say the network will launch by March 1998.

MORE PC SECURITY: Last week, researchers at IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  announced the release of a new encryption system designed to convince wary consumers that on-line shopping and banking is safe. With the system, a computer scrambles an outgoing electronic communication, and the recipient decodes the message using a private key. IBMmakes each key equally difficult, a step IBM says makes it virtually impossible to decipher. Still being tested, the system won't be ready for commercial use until later this year, according to according to
