The new Children's Hospital A children's hospital is a hospital which offers its services exclusively to children. The number of children's hospitals proliferated in the 20th century, as pediatric medical and surgical specialties separated from internal medicine and adult surgical specialties.  at UCLA Medical Center UCLA Medical Center is a hospital located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. It is rated as one of the top three hospitals in the United States and is the top hospital on the West Coast according to US News & World Report.  announced Friday that it soon will accept the largest-ever donation to the center - roughly $12 million - from a retiring Sun Valley businessman.

For more than six decades, Rubin Brown, 83, of Encino has worked six-day weeks from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to build up Excel Electric Supply.

He started the wholesale company downtown in 1932 at age 20, and today has nine stores in three states with corporate offices in Sun Valley.

He's given important positions to his two sons and is selling his company and splitting the proceeds with the hospital, officials said Friday.

 and helped sick children before he spent any money on himself.

"His thought was that whatever research can be done for children so they can be helped, the better," said Patricia Peszynski, Brown's general manager and chief financial officer.

The $12 million gift, the largest donation ever for the new Children's Hospital, will benefit research and clinical work for children who suffer from neurological disorders This is a list of major and frequently observed neurological disorders (e.g. Alzheimer's disease), symptoms (e.g.back pain), signs (e.g. aphasia) and syndromes (e.g. Aicardi syndrome). , such as epilepsy and developmental problems.

Bids soon will be taken for Brown's business, worth $24 million to $25 million, Peszynski said, adding that Brown also will spend much of the proceeds from the sale on a business that raises and races horses.

Brown's ties to the campus are few, except for one of his two grown sons who attended the school years ago. Brown, who has no grandchildren GRANDCHILDREN, domestic relations.
