Lancaster's best weapon is sophomore Laci Fults, who has scored 23 goals. Senior Kristi Hamilton, a returning All-Southern Section sweeper, and Brienne Kephart pace the defense.

Lancaster boys' coach John Cox said he was hoping for a home seed, considering his team's 18-4-3 record. TODAY'S GAMES

VALENCIA (15-4-6) AT HIGHLAND (12-8-2)

Valencia outlook: The Vikings finished in a three-way for second place in the Foothill League. Senior Heather Zubis is the leading scorer. They beat Highland 3-0 in December. The good outside shooting team beat the Highlanders by one early in the season.

Highland outlook: The Bulldogs have adapted to new coach Lamuel Garcia's drop-back defense, and the coach says his team is peaking at the right time.

Highland's advantages: The Bulldogs' best players are young - sophomore Lindsey Giametro (11 goals) and freshman Lizelle Jackson (10 goals) - so it is a good bet they are better than they were when Highland lost 3-0 to Valencia two months ago.

Highland's disadvantages: Not having athletic Gonzales hurts. Playing against mostly weak teams in the Golden League is not the best preparation, either.

What has to happen for Highland to win: The Bulldogs have to warm up. They were late arriving to their Dec. 17 loss to Valencia, which scored two goals in the first 10 minutes.

LONG BEACH WILSON (6-9-4) AT QUARTZ HILL (10-6-6)

Quartz Hill outlook: The Rebels have struggled offensively most of the season, so coach Mike Kuper said the game plan is to hold Wilson to no more than one goal.

Quartz Hill's advantages: Long Beach Wilson makes the long trip, and Quartz Hill has the better record.

Quartz Hill's disadvantages: The Rebels lack punch. Most of its best players, senior Mike Kelly This article is about the newspaper columnist. For the baseball player, see Mike Kelly (baseball).
