There's just not enough hours in the day.

That's the feeling Van Nuys East and Woodland Hills West players, coaches and fans had after Tuesday's American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  District 20 playoff opener was suspended as a result of darkness.

After the two squads had gone at it for three hours, 40 minutes, nothing had been decided. Marc Jannone's two-run single in the top of the eighth inning gave Van Nuys East a 22-21 lead when umpires had to postpone the game's final inning and a half until today. Woodland Hills West will begin its half of the eighth at 4 p.m. at Burroughs High in Burbank.

``I've never seen in my life anything like this,'' said Van Nuys East coach Jody Breeden. ``Both teams were really battling. Our guys really picked their intensity up.''
