PLAYING WAITING GAME FINAL DAY NEEDED TO DECIDE ANGELS PLAYOFF OPPONENT ANGELS 7, TEXAS 6.

Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

ARLINGTON, Texas Arlington is a city in Tarrant County, Texas (USA) within the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. According to a U.S Census Bureau release, as of July 1, 2006 Arlington has an estimated population of 367,197.  - Jarrod Washburn Jarrod Michael Washburn (born August 13, 1974 in La Crosse, Wisconsin) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. Drafted by the California Angels in the 2nd round of the 1995 amateur draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Washburn won the final game  paused briefly at the question: Would he be ticked off if he's not chosen to be one of the Angels' four starters in their American League Division Series
In Major League Baseball, the American League Division Series (ALDS) determines which two teams from the American League will advance to the American League Championship Series.
starting Tuesday against either the Yankees or White Sox?

``Yes,'' said Washburn, who threw two scoreless innings in the Angels' 7-6 victory over the Texas Rangers Texas Rangers, mounted fighting force organized (1835) during the Texas Revolution. During the republic they became established as the guardians of the Texas frontier, particularly against Native Americans.  on Saturday night before 48,174 at Ameriquest Field. ``But I wouldn't cause any off-the-field distraction. I wouldn't be happy but I'll do what's best for the team.''

Washburn needed only 21 pitches to get through his two innings, but it was enough because the Angels don't want any setbacks with his elbow tendinitis, something he has battled most of the season.

``That was the game plan, keep Jarrod short and give Jarrod a workout on the mound,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia

said. ``He made his pitches, there was no need for him to pitch further.''

Washburn's role might be based on who the Angels play. If the Angels play the Yankees, Washburn probably will start. If they face the White Sox, Ervin Santana Ervin Ramon Santana (born December 12, 1982 in La Romana, Dominican Republic) is a right-handed starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Career
Santana was a starting pitcher for the Angels' double-A affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers early in 2005, where he
might get a start over Washburn.

``We've got five starters for four spots,'' Scioscia said.

With Washburn going only two innings, the bullpen got a workout with six relievers getting into the game. Most importantly Adv. 1. most importantly - above and beyond all other consideration; "above all, you must be independent"

, Brendan Donnelly, Scot Shields and Francisco Rodriguez got work, Rodriguez giving up a run in the ninth but earning his 44th save. Scot Shields (10-11) got the victory.

The Angels got home runs from Garret Anderson and Juan Rivera. For Anderson, it's two home runs in back-to-back games, something he had done only once all season before Saturday.

``Probably the last four or five at-bats he's looked very comfortable in the box,'' Scioscia said. ``It's something we hope keeps going.''

Anderson had three hits in the game and his two RBI RBI

--Playoff update:The Angels still could wind up with home-field advantage if they win today and the Yankees lose, in which case the Angels would open the playoffs Tuesday against the Yankees in Anaheim.

Complicated as it seems, the Angels' playoff scenarios have come down to this, with the series starting Tuesday in each situation:

--If the Angels win and Yankees lose today, Angels open at home vs. the Yankees.

--If the Angels lose and Yankees lose, the Angels open in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
    .

--If the Yankees win and Indians lose, the Angels open in New York.

--If the Yankees win and Indians win, the Red Sox and Indians will play a one-game playoff for the wild-card spot Monday. If the Red Sox win that game, the Angels open in New York. If Indians win that game, the Angels open in Chicago.

After the Yankees and White Sox won their games Saturday, it meant the Angels would open the playoffs against one of the two. It also meant the Angels would not open the playoffs against the Red Sox, who swept the Angels out of the playoffs last season.

The Angels won the series series against both the Yankees and White Sox, winning six of 10 against each. The Red Sox won the season series against the Angels, winning six of 10.
