PALMDALE - The Palmdale Playhouse has added an international flavor to its second season, with dance, music and films from all over the world complementing talent from Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. Scheduled performances include the annual Shakespeare Festival, a dance company from France, an orchestra from Russia and its Travelogue Series films.

``The playhouse is everything I hoped it would become,'' Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford said. ``We have an international flavor for the new millennium and the classics the community looks forward to.''

The second half of the season kicks off with the second installment of the five-part Travelogue Series at 2 p.m. Sunday with ``The Adventures of the Vikings.'' Later films will include presentations on France, Hawaii and Costa Rica Costa Rica (kŏs`tə rē`kə), officially Republic of Costa Rica, republic (2005 est. pop. 4,016,000), 19,575 sq mi (50,700 sq km), Central America. . Tickets are $5 for all seats.

Celebrations honoring Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy consists of ``The Spirit of Black Folklore'' performed by a Los Angeles theater troupe called We Tell Stories and ``Letters to Harriet Tubman,'' which will follow the life of the conductor on the Underground Railroad Underground Railroad, in U.S. history, loosely organized system for helping fugitive slaves escape to Canada or to areas of safety in free states. It was run by local groups of Northern abolitionists, both white and free blacks. . The double performance begins at 4 p.m. Monday and tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children.

The 29-member River City Brass Band The River City Brass Band is a modified British-style brass band based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The band performed its first concert on November 21, 1981, with its founder Robert Bernat as conductor.  takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 with a blend of anthems, hymns and folk melodies. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children.

A second performance by the troupe We Tell Stories will begin at 2 p.m. Feb. 20 with ``Let Them Eat Books,'' a celebration of 20th century literature. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children.

As part of a fund-raiser for the playhouse, the Antelope Valley Cultural Foundation will host ``A `Knight' with the Antelope Valley Bluez Brothers 2000'' - a roast for state Sen. W.J. ``Pete'' Knight as well as an evening of blues music by professional and amateur talent. The event begins at 8 p.m. Feb. 26 with ticket prices at $25 for all seats.

The Palmdale Community Orchestra will present its Spring concert,``Music for Laughter and Tears,'' featuring classical music inspired by the theater, at 7:30 p.m. March 1. Ticket prices are $3 for adults and $1 for seniors and children.

The French Tapage Dance Company along with the Los Angeles-based Brockus Project Dance Company will perform modern dance selections at 8 p.m. March 4. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children.

A concert of Irish and Gaelic guitar pieces as well as Irish step dancers will take the stage in ``Men of Worth'' at 8 p.m. March 11. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children.

The fourth annual Shakespeare Festival will again cover two weekends. ``Taming of the Shrew'' will be performed by Palmdale City Palyers at 8 p.m. April 7 and 8, and at 2 p.m. April 9. An ``Evening with the Bard'' will begin at 8 p.m. April 14. ``Hamlet'' will be performed at 8 p.m. April 15.

Shakespeare's Sonnets Shakespeare's sonnets, or simply The Sonnets, is a collection of poems in sonnet form written by William Shakespeare that deal with such themes as love, beauty, politics, and mortality. They were probably written over a period of several years.  and a 15-minute version of ``Hamlet'' will be performed at 2 p.m. April 16. Tickets for each of the shows are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children. Ticket packages are also available for all performances at $40 for adults, $36 for seniors and $28 for children.

The Playhouse's Cultural, Historical and Educational Drama Series will present Arthur Miller's ``The Crucible crucible, vessel in which a substance is heated to a high temperature, as for fusing or calcining. The necessary properties of a crucible are that it maintain its mechanical strength and rigidity at high temperatures and that it not react in an undesirable way with ,'' at 8 p.m. April 28 and 29, and May 5 and 6 and 2 p.m. performances April 30 and May 7. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children.

The Playhouse's season ends with the youth and community program's performances in Summer Celebration and Summer Theatre Camp, a four-week program for children ages 12 to 19 beginning May 19.
