PLAYERS RIVERBOAT CASINO RECEIVES GAMING INSPECTION APPROVAL Opens Tuesday At Noon

    METROPOLIS, Ill., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Illinois Gaming Commission approved the opening of Players Riverboat Casino here today at 1:35 p.m.  The approval ended a long and detailed inspection of all aspects of the 1,400-passenger, 20,000-square-foot, Victorian-style riverboat casino.
    "The Commission makes sure that our training, computers, security, and money-handling procedures and techniques are in strict accordance with its guidelines and Illinois gaming laws," explained David Fishman, President of Players Riverboat Casino.
    The casino will open with an abbreviated schedule and half-price admission Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the noon, 3 p.m., 6 p.m., and 9 p.m. cruises.  Tuesday's customers will also receive a complimentary Players Riverboat Casino souvenir gift.  Half-price cruises will continue through March 2.
    On Friday, the regular cruise schedule begins at 9 a.m. and leaves Merv Griffin's Riverboat Landing every three hours thereafter.  Friday and Saturday feature midnight cruises.  Regular admission begins March 3 and ranges from $8 to $12 per person (ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age).  Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 1-800-935-7700.
    Players Riverboat Casino and the two restaurants at Merv Griffin's Landing expect up to one million visitors during the first 12 months of operation.
    EDITOR'S NOTE:  A news conference will be held on the Riverboat Casino at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23.  The media will have access to public areas of the casino until 12:15 p.m.  Please plan to arrive at 10:30 a.m., as the boat schedule is inflexible
