PLATINUM technology delivers first phase integration of application lifecycle products; Process Continuum, ObjectPro and Paradigm Plus ease object-oriented development.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 1996--At Object World East, PLATINUM technology, inc. today announced that its object-oriented analysis and design tool, Paradigm Plus, has been fully integrated with its application construction tool, ObjectPro, and with the PLATINUM Process Continuum (PPC), which supports quality software engineering and delivery. This represents the first level of integration which was promised last December.

Paradigm Plus enables developers to model and visualize business requirements and system designs. ObjectPro is an object-oriented 4GL which supports rapid application development. PLATINUM Process Continuum provides automated support for project and process management. The integration of these tools enables developers to rapidly transform business requirements into quality, production software applications.

Paradigm Plus' Enterprise Component Modeling (ECM) methodology has been incorporated into PPC to automate the phases, activities, and steps for object-oriented application development. ECM supports all leading object-oriented methods including Fusion, OMT, Booch and the newly announced Unified Modeling Language. From Paradigm Plus, users can graphically view the ECM methodology. From PPC, users can launch the appropriate lifecycle tool, including Paradigm Plus and ObjectPro, to perform any design or construction tasks prescribed in ECM. Models generated in Paradigm Plus can automatically generate ObjectPro code. Through its support for "round-trip" engineering, modifications made in ObjectPro can automatically update the models in Paradigm Plus and vice versa, ensuring models and code remain in-synch and that no data is lost between environments.

Its interactive application development environment eases the difficulty often encountered by developers implementing object technology. It saves time by providing an interpretive run-time environment for seamless testing, debugging, and deploying of applications, eliminating the time-consuming compile-link, compile-link iteration scenario. ObjectPro further supports developer productivity and flexibility by providing automatic generation of C or C++ code and OLE support. It comes with built-in links to all major databases including Oracle, Sybase, Informix, and any ODBC-compliant database. All versions of Windows are currently supported.

Paradigm Plus

Paradigm Plus is an object-oriented analysis and design tool that supports Enterprise Component Modeling. ECM is an iterative model-driven software development strategy which supports the delivery of multi-tiered enterprise-scaleable applications. Paradigm Plus provides seamless integration between business process models and application software models, resulting in quicker time to market.

Paradigm Plus generates code in C++, Ada, Smalltalk, PowerBuilder, Java, and Forte , as well as RDBMS and ODBMS schema definitions. It supports many popular 4GL development environments including PowerBuilder and Forti. It also reverse engineers C++, Smalltalk, PowerBuilder and Forti code. The combined forward and reverse engineering capabilities of Paradigm Plus, without any loss of data, provides "round-trip" engineering which enables iterative development. The tool's graphical environment fully automates all leading object-oriented methods and notations, including the recently announced Unified Modeling Language (UML).
