PLATINUM technology, inc. continues to deliver on data warehouse vision -- announces new versions of six products; Company continues integration of complete end-to-end data warehouse solution with new versions of data movement, data transformation and metadata management products.OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 6, 1996--At the Data Warehousing See data warehouse. data warehousing - data warehouse Conference in Orlando, Florida The city of Orlando is a major city in central Florida and is the county seat of Orange County, Florida. According to the 2000 census, the city population was 185,951. A 2006 U.S. , PLATINUM technology, inc., today announced a series of new product upgrades in support of its complete end-to-end data warehouse strategy. PLATINUM announcements include PLATINUM Data Shopper 1.2, PLATINUM Repository/MVS 3.3, PLATINUM InfoPump 2.0, PLATINUM InfoHub 2.0, PLATINUM InfoTransport 3.0 and PLATINUM InfoRefiner 3.0, encompassing data movement and transformation, metadata management, and data access. PLATINUM has taken the wealth of data warehousing technology assembled via mergers, acquisitions, and internal development and developed new PLATINUM versions of these key data warehouse creation and management tools. As a result, the company now offers an integrated data warehouse solution that is a powerful alternative to the point product approach. According to Tom DePasquale, vice president of the PLATINUM Data Warehouse business unit, "PLATINUM technology has now advanced our entire data warehouse product line. This means customers will get the benefit of both advances in technology and integration. We now provide the most complete data movement and metadata management solution in the industry. We will continue this process of advancing technology and integration because it is our intention to dominate the data warehouse segment of the market by providing customers with the comprehensive solutions they need." New Products for Integrated Data Warehouse Implementation PLATINUM Data Shopper 1.2 PLATINUM Data Shopper allows business users to easily access information in the data warehouse repository via an easy-to-understand MS Windows interface. Data Shopper translates technical data and abbreviations into meaningful business names and descriptions, enabling users to drill-down logically from general topics to more specific categories of meta data. Data Shopper 1.2 includes support for external query tools and new querying capabilities. Data Shopper 1.2 can now automatically hand-off a pre-defined query stored in the Repository into PLATINUM InfoQuery or PLATINUM Forest & Trees, as well as Microsoft Query and Intersolv's Q+E. The external query tool interface is completely open. PLATINUM Repository/MVS PLATINUM Repository/MVS allows companies to leverage the value of their corporate data by easily managing, maintaining, and accessing vast amounts of information from databases, applications, and systems in a complex, heterogeneous client/server environment. PLATINUM Repository/MVS 3.3 includes support for new import sources, such as Informix, LBMS LBMS Long Beach Middle School (New York) LBMS Lake Bluff Middle School (Lake Bluff, Illinois) LBMS Lake Belton Middle School (Belton, TX) and PLATINUM InfoRefiner, and several enhancements to its management capabilities. PLATINUM InfoPump 2.0 InfoPump 2.0 extends the reach of its data replication and routing capabilities for connecting heterogeneous data sources (server-based RDBMSs and Lotus Notes) to include new server environments and database management systems. The latest version of InfoPump has been optimized to support full 32-bit implementations of the HP UX, Sun Solaris, and AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system which runs on its Intellistation workstations and pSeries, p5, iSeries and i5 server families. operating systems in addition and the Microsoft Windows NT operating system. To complement the addition of new operating systems support, InfoPump 2.0 also features a series of new database interfaces. PLATINUM InfoTransport 2.0 InfoTransport Version 2.0 now supports change propagation from InfoRefiner, enabling companies to distribute just the changes to a data file, reducing network traffic and the time required to transfer data. This capability is the first of its kind to be offered from a single vendor and provides a more integrated solution across extraction, refinement and distribution of data in the warehouse. InfoTransport Version 2.0 also includes enhancements to its graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI) Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to and support for DB2 for MVS (Multiple Virtual Storage) Introduced in 1974, the primary operating system used with IBM mainframes (the others are VM and DOS/VSE). MVS is a batch processing-oriented operating system that manages large amounts of memory and disk space. Version 4.0 as a source and Informix as a target. In addition, Version 2.0 adds two new target UNIX UNIX Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics). operating environments, Pyramid and AT&T (NCR (NCR Corporation, Dayton, OH, www.ncr.com) A technology company specializing in financial terminal transactions, retail systems and data warehousing. Until the late 1990s, NCR was heavily invested in the hardware side of the industry, known worldwide as a major manufacturer of computers ). It also supports ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. Originally designed for teletype operations, it has found wide application in computers. as a target, which enables InfoTransport to distribute data to any standard database that supports ASCII. PLATINUM InfoRefiner Version 3.0 The new features in PLATINUM InfoRefiner Version 3.0 enable database administrators (DBAs), application managers and project leaders to more efficiently manage data extraction, refinement and movement from mainframe sources into their data warehouse. It adds support for replication and change propagation from DB2 as a source database. In addition, it supports direct mapping to a single generic model which allows replication and propagation to multiple heterogeneous targets. These features save development time and costs, and maximize the use of existing resources by allowing older data and applications to work concurrently with newer technology and platforms, ensuring all systems are synchronized. Version 3.0 is a true client server implementation with a new graphical front-end for effective management of the data movement process. PLATINUM InfoHub 2.0 with DRDA (Distributed Relational Database Architecture) An IBM architecture for distributing data across multiple heterogeneous platforms. It also serves as a protocol for access to these databases from IBM and non-IBM platforms. DRDA uses LU 6.2 as its transport protocol. Connectivity PLATINUM InfoHub 2.0 allows users and applications to access data stored in non-relational legacy database management systems using the same SQL SQL in full Structured Query Language. Computer programming language used for retrieving records or parts of records in databases and performing various calculations before displaying the results. commands they would use to access relational database management systems See DBMS for a shorter list of “typical”, representative database management systems. IMS was widely implemented throughout the 1970s under MVS and continues to be used under z/OS. , VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method) An IBM access method for storing data, widely used in IBM mainframes. It uses the B+tree method for organizing data. VSAM - Virtual Storage Access Method , and MVS sequential files. InfoHub Version 2.0 features a new DRDA implementation which allows InfoHub to utilize the DRDA communications infrastructure to handle the movement of data between client and host systems.
