PLASMON RELEASES MID-SIZE 5.25 INCH MAGNETO-OPTICAL LIBRARY.

Plasmon, a manufacturer of automated data storage libraries, has announced the release of an additional library to the 5.25 inch Magneto-Optical (MO) G-Series library family. The Mid-Sized 5.25 inch Magneto-Optical Library is designed to address data-intensive archival applications found in environments demanding high reliability 24 hours a day 365 days a year. These applications can be found in industries such as financial, medical imaging, document imaging, government, and insurance. Configurations range from 582GB (64 slots with 2 or 4 drives) to 946 GB (104 slots with 2 or 4 drives).

Based on a revolutionary architectural platform providing enhanced levels of performance, reliability and scalability, Plasmon's Mid-Sized G-Series Library supports the Sony 9.1GB-14x MO Drive and both rewritable Refers to storage media that can be re-recorded many times. Contrast with write once. See magnetic disk, magnetic tape and rewritable optical disc.  and WORM (Write Once Read Many) media. The Library features hot-swap drives to maximize data availability Refers to the degree to which data can be instantly accessed. The term is mostly associated with service levels that are set up either by the internal IT organization or that may be guaranteed by a third party datacenter or storage provider.  and brushless motors for increased performance, reliability and life. Plasmon's G-Series Libraries are specifically designed to optimize today's 9.1GB-14x drives and tomorrow's Ultra Density Optical Ultra Density Optical (UDO) is an optical disc format designed for high-density storage of high-definition video and data. Overview
An Ultra Density Optical disc or UDO is a 5.25" ISO cartridge optical disc which can store up to 60 GB of data.
(UDO (Ultra Density Optical) A 5.25" rewritable optical disc technology from Plasmon (www.plasmon.com) that also supports write-once (WORM) media. Using blue laser optics and phase change recording, 30GB drives and cartridges were introduced in 2003 with plans for 60GB and ) optical drive and media technology.

Because of the limited storage space available in IT data centers, Plasmon's Mid-Sized G-Series Libraries are designed for volume efficiency. The Mid-Sized Library has the smallest footprint in the industry among competitive models and is available in a stand-alone unit or as a 19-inch rack mountable library.

"The Mid-Size Library solidifies our Magneto-Optical G-Series product line," said Kelly Scharf, Director of Product Management in the U.S. "Based on customer needs, we have added optional features such as a bar code scanner A device specialized for reading bar codes and converting them into either the ASCII or EBCDIC digital character code. Pen scanners, also known as wand scanners, were the first type of bar code scanner developed in the 1970s. , remote management and Fibre connectivity to keep libraries continuously operating under the most extreme environments. As a result, Plasmon offers a solution to solve current data intensive application needs as well as such applications in the future."

ISV (Independent Software Vendor) A person or company that develops software. It implies an organization that specializes in software only and is not part of a computer systems or hardware manufacturer.  library management is also available for the Mid-Sized Library from leading vendors such as ADIC, BakBone and OTG (1) See USB OTG.

(2) (The OBJECTive Technology Group, Ltd., Alexandria, VA) An organization that was devoted to distributed computing and object technology. Founded in 1994, it augmented the object and Internet standards community and served as an intermediary between

With the addition of the Mid-Sized Library, Plasmon's G-Series products range from 582GB (64 slots) to 5.8TB (638 slots) in capacity and from 2 to 12 drives. All models of the G-Series incorporate 14x - 9.1GB Magneto-Optical drives magneto-optical drive - magneto-optical disk  from long-time partner Sony.

Established in 1987, Plasmon Plc is an international data storage business specializing in removable data storage technologies. Plasmon's architectural configurations provide the highest level of automated flexibility through the implementation of 5.25-inch MO (Magneto-Optical), 12-inch TrueWORM (write once, read many), LTO-Ultrium, DVD-RAM/DVD-R, CD-ROM/CD-R, and media. Plasmon also provides a range of storage management software and network-attach storage solutions.
